GFT "Guam's Local Union" is dedicated to improving the quality of life for our members and their families. We accomplish our mission by negotiating Collective Bargaining Agreements (for our members that are in an exclusively recognized bargaining units), representation in the Civil service commission and in court, providing great insurance packages including health insurance, securing discounts to help make life more affordable and by advocating for working family friendly legislation. In the future we are trying to establish a national union pension for our members. GFT is affiliated with the AFL-CIO as AFT-Local 1581. Currently GFT membership is open to every non management GovGuam employee, and we have members in every branch of the Government of Guam. From Teachers to Firefighters, from Nurses to Parole officers, from Police to Bus Drivers, from water workers to office workers GFT members touch every aspect of life on Guam. We currently have exclusive recognition for GPSS faculty and staff, GCC and UOG Staff, DPW bus drivers, GMH Nurses, DPHSS Eligibility Specialists, GWA and are in the process of getting exclusive recognition for GFD, GIAA ARFF, and the rest of the employees at GMH. We hope in the next two years to get exclusive recognition for every Government of Guam worker so that they can enjoy the same protection that a collective bargaining agreement brings.
